School Council
School councillors are held in high regard by our pupils and help to build a trusting and respectful relationship between students across school. School councillors hold their own responsibilities and build and develop lots of important real-world skills such as teamwork, public speaking, trust and leadership.
HOW CAN I BECOME A SCHOOL COUNCILLOR?
School councillors apply at the start of each academic year by writing a letter of application stating why they would like to be on the leadership team, and why they have the right qualities to be a good role model for their peers. Two school councillors are chosen from each class.
WHAT DOES THE ROLE OF A SCHOOL COUNCILLOR LOOK LIKE DAY TO DAY?
Whiston Worrygoose's School council hold their meetings every week throughout lunch time to discuss a range of issues. At the start of the year, school councillors will choose 3 priorities for the year ahead. They will then plan out how they will work towards each of these agreed areas and get to work! School councillors will aim to improve the general day-to-day life for children in their school, as well as focusing on wider issues such as fundraising for the school and raising money for charity. Our school council take part in exciting opportunities such as helping set up for school events like coffee mornings, as well as introducing their own initiatives. This year, the school councillors have already introduced a ‘school councillor award’ for incredible behaviour, which they get to present to pupils in assembly. They also hold the power to give out two character points per week for students who they feel are working really hard in school. In previous years, school council have also visited the Mayor of Rotherham and had a tour of the Rotherham Town Hall!
